About Me
I am a 38 year old mother of a wonderful son and living in London. When my son was one year old I discovered a lump on my forhead which turned out to be a dermoid (benign) tumour which in turn caused a Pott’s Puffy tumor (disease of the bone in my frontal sinus). After the removal of the benign tumor I was left with residual osteomyelitis and gradually the dents in my head got large enough that I was advised to have reconstructive surgery which eventually happened in August 2009. Unfortunately I got a few surprises in the form of bugs such as MSSA and Pseudomonas and it has been a long slog to try to overcome these. As I start this literary journey with you I self-medicate my intravenous antibiotics and await the next step of my journey. I don’t want to lose my face but, more importantly, I don’t want to lose my life and therefore want to document my experiences both emotionally and within the reality of the British health and governmental systems in order to highlight both the good and bad of becoming encumbered with a somewhat hidden (at the moment under a fringe) disability.
